It can therefore be used externally for fever\u00a0blisters and internally for colds. The essential oil is also used to treat skin lesions caused by the\u00a0molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV), a disease affecting children and immunocompromised\u00a0patients [2,3].\r\n\r\nIn food:\r\n\r\nLemon myrtle extract is suitable for flavouring food products such as alcoholic and non-alcoholic\u00a0drinks, liqueurs, flavoured oils and sauces. The extract also goes well with sweets, ice cream and\u00a0desserts.\r\n\r\nIn cosmetics:\r\n\r\nThe essential oil of lemon myrtle has strong antimicrobial properties against a variety of skin\u00a0relevant bacteria [4]. The extract can therefore be used as an ingredient in cosmetics and\u00a0personal care products such as soaps, creams, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioners.
