Utilisation:
The essential oil of peppermint leaves is used in herbal medicines for mild gastrointestinal complaints such as cramps, flatulence and abdominal pain. It is particularly suitable for patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Applied externally, peppermint oil is effective against headaches. In traditional herbal medicine, the oil is used to treat cold symptoms such as coughing, local muscle pain or local itching [2]. In addition, peppermint extract is used as a flavour enhancer in medicinal products, especially to mask metallic or salty flavours [3].*
The CO2-extract from peppermint leaves is often used as a flavour in the food and beverage industry. It is particularly suitable for flavouring sweets, chewing gum, liqueurs or non-alcoholic soft drinks.*
Due to its use in traditional medicine and its positive properties, peppermint extract is also suitable as an ingredient in food supplements.*
The essential oil of peppermint leaves is often used in cosmetics, especially in personal care products or dental care products, because of its aroma and interesting scent. The oil has a fresh menthol scent with a cooling effect.*
